With the 3 Carbon, HED Cycling finally lightened i

With the 3 Carbon, HED Cycling finally lightened its best aero wheels by going to an all carbon tubular rim. The result is a very fast set of racing wheels for $1,300.

HED claims its 3-spoke wheel is more aerodynamic than any traditionally spoked wheel. If this is true, which seems likely, then the new all carbon version, at 1,500g for the 700c model, puts these wheels on my short list for racing. The difference between the old aluminum rimmed tubular version and the new carbon rim is a whopping 120g off the front wheel and 170g from the rear. That's nearly 2/3 lbs from the worst place you can carry unnecessary weight - the rim. Even so, the HED 3 Carbon is still fairly heavy when it comes to tubular wheels, but 1,500g is low enough for me to consider them viable racing wheels...

Here's my list of the hottest new carbon bikes for ?06. I've only included completely new bikes or, at least, framesets that were unavailable this time last year. I've also included both road and tri geometry bikes because many triathletes continue to use road bikes, particularly for draft legal racing.
I have assembled this list of my favorite tri bike

I have assembled this list of my favorite tri bikes under $2,500. I chose the $2,500 price point because it is roughly double that of the least expensive tri bike on the market. My other price categories are $2,500 - $4,000 and over $4,000. I will prepare a top ten list for those price categories in the very near future. However, since the under $2,500 price category is the most popular, I am starting with it...

Packing a bike for airline travel is normally a cumbersome task and reassembling the bike right before a big race is daunting even for those familiar with a wrench. When my friend Jason asked about travel cases last year for his frequent jaunts, Tri All 3 Sports? Velo Safe was my first recommendation. The Compact Velo Safe, with the small amount of disassembly it requires, makes traveling with your bike a pleasure and was perfect for Jason's needs.
My last article on cranksets concluded that there

My last article on cranksets concluded that there is little practical difference between them. My opinion has changed, at least with respect to cranksets using outboard bearing bottom brackets.

The SLK MegaExo cranks are among the finest carbon cranks available, I particularly like the marbled carbon finish. It is the MegaExo bottom bracket though that gives it an edge over its stable mates. FSA?a outboard bearing cups, like the practically identical ones from Shimano, result in a slight increase in stiffness through the bottom bracket. Additionally, the bottom bracket/outboard bearing cups install easier than a standard bottom bracket. Then the drive side crank, with its connecting tube, is inserted through the bearing cups. Finally, the non-drive side crank bolts right up and you're ready to roll...

Like the Des Alpes jersey, it appears to be very well made and employs some high end fabric, namely E-Fit compression fabric with 40+ UV protection to prevent sun burn and dehydration. It is really very impressive and as usual, I'll point you to the Cervelo web site where you can read all the details on the Magnum TT Top..

Somehow, we find the energy to climb back on the bike or lace up the trainers and then spend the rest of day in a fog with the misguided belief that another 5k run, 3k of which we can't remember, will make a difference when next we take the to the starting line. This was a common comment I heard while testing Felt's S25. I completely agree with them; with its brilliant yellow paint, aero-shaped tubes and tri-bar set-up, it's easy to see why most anyone would think that this is one fast and expensive machine. The Inflatable Foot Rinse promised to be far easier to fit in my tri bag and require much less water. Well, it does just that, all for the reasonable price of $19.99...

When I squat down with my knees straight in front

When I squat down with my knees straight in front of me, neither my ankles nor the arches of my feet move. Thus, as my local running shoe expert has explained it to me, I cannot run with any support at all, including the very common piece of plastic in the middle of the sole of your running shoe called a midsole shank. While this piece of plastic looks innocent enough, it was the cause of persistent Achilles soreness for me a few years ago when my then-favorite shoe was modified to include this feature. Once I figured out that the shank was causing the soreness, I switched to the Nike Air Pegasus for all training as well as any racing longer than a 10k...

I like options, especially when it comes to supplementation, hydration, nutrition when I'm training and racing. Temperatures vary widely where I live and I like to be able to adjust what I'm eating and drinking during a long ride or run. I also like to be able to adjust when the training session changes - like when an easy day becomes the Saturday morning grand prix. During training, adjustments aren't too hard to accommodate. However, during a race, you're often stuck with whatever you have once the race starts. For that reason, it is important to me to be able to formulate my hydration plan as close to race time as possible...

The Louis Garneau Tri Air cycling shoe differs from the competition primarily due to the number of vent holes in the sole. Since I sweat profusely, I am always in the market for clothes and gear that are well ventilated to wick away the sweat and keep my core temp down. As we all know, the higher your core temperature during a race, the longer it takes to cross the finish line. If the LG Tri Air Shoes can help in that regard, they may just be the shoe for me and you...

Ok, it seems that nutrition has been on the minds of the TgR staff as of late, with several new reviews of Hammer/E-Caps products. So, I thought I would add my 2 cents by reviewing my favorite during-exercise drink mix - Accelerade by PacificHealth Labs. Like Mark, I have tried many of the products out on the market, in search of that little bit extra while out on the roads or the trails. I bounced around for a couple of years, trying this one and then that one before finally selecting Accelerade. Here are my reasons for this choice - in order of importance to me...
